CHICAGO (WLS) -- Chicago's new archbishop is continuing his tradition of giving back to the community by handing out some Thanksgiving turkeys Wednesday.

Archbishop Blase Cupich helped distribute hundreds of turkeys at the St. Columbanus Food Pantry.

People lined up early Wednesday morning to get their turkey and meet archbishop Cupich.

"It's a reality of life today that there are many people who are in need," he said. "So, if I can put the spotlight on that and make sure that we all recognize that we have needs in our community that have to be met, then it's a project worth doing. Plus the fact that I consider any day out of the office a day of vacation, so this is a day of vacation."

After handing out the turkeys, Archbishop Cupich met with students at St. Columbanus.
