Chicagoans receive national arts, humanities awards

WASHINGTON (WLS) -- Two Chicagoans are among the National Medal of Arts and Humanities Medal recipients.

Philanthropist Joan Harris was recognized for decades of generosity to artists, singers, dancers, and musicians.

President Obama presented her with the nation's highest award for artists and patrons.

Northwestern University historian Darlene Clark Hine received the National Humanities Medal recognizing those in fields including history and literature.
