CHICAGO (WLS) -- ABC 7's Spirit of Giving: Helping Fight Hunger campaign reminds Chicagoans to help the many adults and children throughout our city and suburbs who are experiencing hunger this holiday season.
ABC 7 Eyewitness News Anchor Hosea Sanders and Meteorologist Tracy Butler will kick off the campaign Monday, December 8 on ABC 7 NEWS THIS MORNING with the goal of raising awareness about food insecurity and the increasing need for food in our region, especially during this time of year. Kate Maehr, the executive director and CEO of the Greater Chicago Food Depository and Julie Yurko, president and CEO of the Northern Illinois Food Bank will talk about the best ways to help the hungry and how to make a donation to their respective food banks.

In addition, Tracy Butler will present a check to the Greater Chicago Food Depository from funds raised during the "Duke Classic," a charity golf event honoring the memory of the late ABC 7 cameraman Michael "Duke" Dukewich.
During the week of December 8, ABC 7 Eyewitness News will report stories on food bank efforts to eliminate hunger including stories on holiday meal boxes and school-based food pantries.
On the December 9th edition of Windy City LIVE, Tracy Butler will be presenting a check from ABC 7 Chicago/ Disney to the Greater Chicago Food Depository (GCFD) and the Northern Illinois Food Bank (NIFB) through a corporate initiative, "Season of Service"/Feeding America. Feeding America services a national network of food banks of which the GCFD and the NIFB are members.
