Showtime will chronicle theNotre Damefootball team's 2015 season in a show called "A Season With Notre Dame," the network announced Tuesday.

The show will debut Sept. 8, three days after the Fighting Irish open their season at home against Texas.

"The series chronicles the University of Notre Dame's quest for a college football playoff national championship with weekly, all access coverage," the network said. "We're giving an inside look at Notre Dame's star players in the locker room and the classroom as the series transports you beyond the field and into the lives of student athletes throughout the season."

The Irish are an intriguing program this year, as they return 19 starters from last year's 8-5 squad and are a popular preseason pick to make a run toward the College Football Playoff.

Notre Dame opened at No. 11 in the preseason Amway Coaches Poll.

In a similar vein, Showtime aired a 90-minute special last spring chronicling Notre Dame's and Maryland's men's basketball seasons called "Hoops U."
