CTA unveils all electric buses

CHICAGO (WLS) -- The Chicago Transit Authority added its first all-electric buses to its fleet.

The two new buses are part of the transit agency's plan to modernize the system. The CTA said the buses will provide a cleaner, quieter ride and reduce fuel costs and emissions. Each bus can run between 80-120 miles on a single charge, officials said, and the emissions from each bus are equal to removing 23 cars from the road annually.

The buses will go into use immediately on the following routes:

• #7 Harrison
• #120 Ogilvie/Streeterville Express
• #121 Union/Streeterville Express
• #124 Navy Pier
• #125 Water Tower Express
• #157 Streeterville/Taylor routes
