Overturned tanker closes SB I-355 ramp to WB I-80 for hours

NEW LENOX, Ill. (WLS) -- An overturned tanker carrying refrigerated liquid nitrogen blocked the ramp from southbound I-355 to westbound I-80 in southwest suburban New Lenox for hours Thursday.

Illinois State Police said the tanker rolled over around 4:30 a.m. The driver was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

A hazardous materials team was on the scene all morning. State police said the tanker was not leaking, but was venting. Vents are built into the truck to relieve any pressure that may build up.

They kept a safe distance as a precaution. The ramp reopened later Thursday morning.
