MAYWOOD, Ill. (WLS) -- A Cook County Sheriff's deputy fired at a driver who authorities said pointed a gun at the officer after a two-vehicle accident on the outbound I-290 near 1st Avenue.

Sheriff's police said two drivers got into a fight after a crash that took place around 2 a.m. Sunday. When officers arrived to check for injuries, one driver ran off.

After a short foot chase, the driver allegedly pulled out a gun, which was recovered from the scene, and pointed it at an officer. The officer then discharged his weapon. The officer was not injured.

The suspect was taken into custody and was taken to the hospital in stable condition to treat injuries sustained in the crash, according to sheriff's police.
