Tollway to test hands- and eyes-free traffic app

CHICAGO (WLS) -- A new traffic app will help you avoid crashes and big tie-ups.

The Illinois Tollway wants to test the hands-free and eyes-free app starting next month.

It works by using your phone's speaker to alert you to traffic issues within a mile of where you are. That helps you not take your eyes off the road to look at an alert.

Several other states already use it.

If the app tests well here in Illinois, it could be on your phone next year.
