Severe weather cleared out of the Chicago area by Monday afternoon, but cooler temperatures are on the way.

"Rain moving out of the area for now," ABC7 Meteorologist Mike Caplan said. "And cold air- by July standards- is coming."

Overnight, temperatures will drop into the 50s, and will be hard-pressed to hit 70 on Tuesday. "It won't last that long," Caplan said, but will bring "temperatures more befitting September than mid-July."

With the cold air and warm temperatures on the ground, expect some rain Tuesday.

"Shouldn't add up to much," Caplan said.

A Thunderstorm watch was issued for parts of the Chicago area on Monday afternoon, but expired without any serious damage. Flood warnings remain in effect across parts of Illinois, Indiana and Wisconsin.
