Why has Chicago had colorful sunsets lately?
Wildfires in the Pacific Northwest are creating a layer of smoke in the atmosphere that makes Chicago sunrises and sunsets more colorful.

CHICAGO (WLS) -- Have you been wondering why Chicago has had some especially colorful sunrises and sunsets lately?

Wildfires in the Pacific Northwest are spewing smoke high into the atmosphere, creating a thin layer of smoke that passes through the jet stream. The smoke is not as visible during the day as it is during sunrise and sunset, when the smoke causes light to be refracted, causing the rich color.
