"It's just a shame, senseless, senseless shooting, and this is the harm that you do to people that are innocent bystanders," the victim's mother Sharon Young said.

Young said her daughter Angel was asleep in her second-floor bedroom when they heard gunfire erupt outside.

The shooting happened at about 9:56 p.m. at Christiana and Gladys Avenues, according to Chicago police.

Video from the scene shows multiple bullet casings on the street.

At least two bullets flew through their apartment building.

One of the bullets hit the woman in the eye.

Neighbor Trina Hunt, who is five-and-a-half months pregnant, said she hit the floor when she heard what felt like relentless gunfire.

"I instantly dropped to the floor and rolled as close to under my couch as I could," Hunt said. "My son, my nephew managed to grab him and yank him to the floor, and they crawled into the closet and that's where they stayed at the majority of time until it seems like everything stopped."

Although heartbreaking, everyone is grateful that 41-year-old Angel is alive.

"You can't be thinking that you're protected anywhere you go, because you could be asleep, and this happens."

Angel was taken to the hospital in serious condition. Her mother said she will have need surgery with a long road ahead.

Chicago police said no one is in custody. CPD Area Four Detectives are investigating.
