5 Wheaton College football players charged in hazing

WHEATON, Ill. (WLS) -- Five Wheaton College football players face felony charges in an alleged hazing case from March of 2016. The charges were announced on Monday.

As its junior varsity team took the field on Monday, five members of Wheaton College's varsity team prepared to turn themselves in to authorities.

On Monday evening, arrest warrants were out for Noah Spielman, Samuel Tebos, James Cooksey, Ben Pettway and Kyle Kregel.

According to the Chicago Tribune the five football players dragged a freshman teammate kicking and screaming from his dorm room last year, tied him with duct tape, and left him beaten and half-naked with two torn shoulders on a baseball field.

In a statement, a spokesperson for Wheaton College said, "When this incident was brought to our attention by other members of the football team and coaching staff in March 2016, the College took swift action to initiate a thorough investigation."

None of the students charged are in custody. DuPage County State's Attorney Paul Darrah said they could turn themselves in as early as Tuesday morning.
