ST. CHARLES, Ill. (WLS) -- The ABC7 I-Team has learned of fresh legal troubles for a west suburban doctor.

Dr. Mark Lewis was the subject of an I-Team investigation last fall when the state of Illinois continued sending him new patients even though he had been charged with criminal sexual assault.

Things have been breaking badly for Lewis the past few years; beginning with his pet dog that went overboard from his boat, prompting widespread TV coverage of a citywide search. Then he was charged with sexually assaulting a former patient and had his medical license suspended.

Now, Dr. Lewis is facing drug and weapons charges after a Kane County narcotics team executed a search warrant at his St. Charles home.

Dr. Lewis' nightmare of three years ago when his pet Pomeranian named Tank went into the drink is nothing compared to the legal horrors he faces now.

Lewis had been out on bond the past year after being charged with two counts of criminal sexual assault.

While he was free, according to Kane County authorities, Lewis turned his luxury home on Squire Lane in St. Charles into a sizable marijuana growing facility.

The 55-year-old MD is now charged with several new crimes including marijuana possession, marijuana production and gun possession while have a revoked state firearm owners ID.

Just as the I-Team found him at his office last year, Lewis came to door of his home when officers from the north central narcotics task force came with a warrant Thursday.

According to the charges, they found 199 marijuana plants and more than 11,700 grams of processed marijuana ready for street sale, valued at $600,000. They also found a handgun and ammo.

Bond was set at $1 million, but Lewis now is locked up in the Kane County jail and not going anywhere, according to law enforcement officials. Judge John Barsanti revoked his bond from the sex assault case.

Dr. Lewis' attorney declined to talk about the new charges. They will all be back in court on Wednesday. As for Lewis' state medical license, it remains on suspended status and has not yet been permanently revoked by Illinois authorities.
