ALLENTOWN, Pa. -- Authorities say a mother threw her baby into an Allentown river then jumped in herself in what appears to be an attempted murder-suicide.

It happened around 2:00 Sunday afternoon at the Hamilton Street Bridge.

Allentown police said witnesses told them that the 19-year-old woman tossed her 1-year-old boy into the water and then jumped from the bridge.

Fortunately both survived.

Both the baby and the mother were pulled from the water and were hospitalized in serious condition.

Police say this appears to have been an attempted murder-suicide, but the investigation continues.
