CHICAGO (WLS) -- Another Chicago politician is throwing his hat in the ring to be the next mayor of Chicago.

George Cardenas joins a growing list of mayoral hopefuls, ahead of the election next February.

Outlining his vision this morning, which includes fiscal discipline, he says, public safety, neighborhood investment, procurement, pension reform, and a families' first platform.

Fresh off his recent primary win for re-election as a Cook County Board of Review commissioner, Cardenas formally announced his candidacy for mayor of Chicago on Tuesday.

Meaning he will be running for two offices at the same time.

Cardenas is a former long-serving alderman on the Southwest Side and most recently became Cook County Board of Review commissioner.

He got emotional about his youth, growing up in the city, and the difficulties they experienced.

He says he knows the challenges so many Chicagoans face and why it drives him as a politician.

Illinois Comptroller Susana Mendoza, Congressman Mike Quigley and Cook County Treasurer Maria Pappas have already announced their bid.

Illinois Secretary of State Alexi Giannoulias is also expected to run.

So far, Mayor Brandon Johnson has not formally announced his bid for reelection.

Although he is widely expected to run for mayor once again.
