Illinois Comptroller Susana Mendoza launches campaign for mayor of Chicago

CHICAGO (WLS) -- Illinois Comptroller Susana Mendoza officially launched her campaign to become the next mayor of Chicago on Wednesday.

Last year, Mendoza told ABC7 she would not seek another term as state comptroller.

She has also been a state representative and served as Chicago city clerk.

In 2019, she ran for mayor in 2019 and came in fifth.

"The state of Illinois cannot be successful when the city of Chicago is failing," Mendoza previously said. "I think that Chicago is in dire need of competency, someone who understands the needs of the city."
