Cook County Treasurer Maria Pappas says she's running for Chicago mayor

CHICAGO (WLS) -- Cook County Treasurer Maria Pappas says she intends to make a run for Chicago mayor in 2027.

But her campaign will not officially kick off until after the 2026 election.

That is because she is still up for reelection as Cook County treasurer.

Pappas says she will make an official announcement soon.

Pappas is the longest-serving Cook County treasurer. She was first elected in 1998.
