Betty Loren-Maltese owes $230K in back taxes

August 9, 2012 (CICERO, Ill.)

A U.S. tax court judge has ordered Maltese to pay more than $230,000 in back taxes and penalties for failing to report income from 1994.

The case involves a Cadillac she bought and investments in a mob-connected golf course in Wisconsin.

Ten years ago, after Maltese's tax fraud case ended with a hung jury, the charges were dismissed and prosecutors focused on her political corruption conviction. But the IRS pursued the case in civil court to recover the money.
