Teen killed in ATV crash in Crystal Lake

CRYSTAL LAKE, Ill. (WLS) -- A teenager was killed Sunday evening in an ATV crash in northwest suburban Crystal Lake.

The crash occurred at about 7 p.m. near the 2400-block of Bryn Mawr Lane.

The boy crashed in a field. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The boy's name and age were not immediately released.

An autopsy performed Tuesday determined that the teen died of compressional asphyxia, "the loss of oxygen from an inability to breathe due to compression of the chest by the ATV found on top of the chest of the driver involved in this tragic accident," according to the McHenry County coroner.

Crystal Lake police are investigating.
