Boy, 12, dies after being hit by car on US-20 in Elgin

ELGIN, Ill. (WLS) -- A 12-year-old boy has died after he was hit by a car Wednesday evening on Route 20, police said.

Citing a preliminary investigation, police say the boy was running across Route 20 west of McLean Blvd. when he was struck around 6:14 p.m. The driver was not injured.

The boy was taken to Presence St. Joseph Hospital, where he later died.

Police said he is an Elgin resident, but have not yet released his name.

Elgin police are investigating the crash.
