CHICAGO (WLS) -- CHA officials said an investigation into how dozens of birth certificates, social security cards, credit reports and addresses were left by a dumpster is "closed."
The self-proclaimed dumpster diver discovered the personal data written on discarded affordable housing applications in the trash last May. An ABC7 I-Team report led CHA officials to investigate.
Officials called the situation an unacceptable but isolated incident. They say the investigation was recently "closed" and appropriate action was taken. However, CHA officials refused to reveal if employees had been disciplined or fired.
"Weaknesses were shored up to update the policy of retention and destruction of documents," the CHA inspector general said.
Officials also said employees received additional training on how to properly destroy sensitive information.
