Emanuel PAC attacks Garcia
Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel's political action committee launched negative ads.

CHICAGO (WLS) -- Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel's Political Action Committee launched new negative ads targeting challenger Cook County Commissioner Jesus "Chuy" Garcia.

Garcia is one of four people running against Emanuel.

Emanuel voted early Friday morning at the Chicago Election Board Headquarter, 69 West Washington. His campaign released its "closing" television ad, which features Emanuel's major endorsements, including one made by U.S. President Barack Obama during his Chicago visit on Thursday.

"He's making sure that every Chicagoan in every neighborhood is getting a fair shot and success that they deserve," Obama said in the ad.

The other ad, purchased by the pro-Emanuel PAC Chicago Forward, attacks Garcia: "Chuy Garcia, out for himself. Not us."

The mayor, who needs 50-percent of the vote plus one to avoid a runoff election, denied his campaign targeted Garcia, who is second in the race according to a Tribune poll.

"What I'm targeting is the future of the City of Chicago because I've laid out real ideas and real solutions and shown the strength to see those through," Emanuel said.

"The Mayor is desperate. The Mayor has called on his donors to come to his rescue to try to put him over the top on Tuesday but it's too late," Garcia said.

Cook County Clerk David Orr, who supports Garcia, said the millions being spent by the mayor's campaign and Chicago Forward "is eroding democracy" in Chicago.

"Unfortunately, Chicago has become both in the mayoral election, as well as the aldermen elections, the poster child for abuse," Orr said.

Millionaire businessman Willie Wilson, whose self-funded campaign will increase its television spending this weekend, said he's the candidate about whom the mayor should be worried.

"We're going to stay positive. Even if somebody came negative. we're going to stay positive. We're also going to talk about the facts," Wilson said.
