CHICAGO -- A suburban construction worker and father of three was killed in an apparent robbery on the city's South Side.

Police say Miguel Haro, 44, of Cicero, was shot in the head around 5:40 p.m. Sunday on the 7200-block of South Hermitage in the West Englewood neighborhood.

Haro, who was working on rehabbing a home when the attempted robbery and shooting happened, was pronounced dead at Holy Cross Hospital.

Community activist Andrew Holmes says the victim may not have spoken English.

"He may not have understood what was happening until they produced that weapon," Holmes said. "The individual turned around, discharged that weapon, shot the individual in the head and that individual is now deceased."

Holmes noted that there are three city cameras in the area and said residents with their own surveillance cameras will be asked to turn their video in to police to help them identify the suspects.
