WEST DUNDEE, Ill. (WLS) -- A 75-year-old man from suburban West Dundee with a heart condition and a bad back plans to make his third attempt to climb Mount Kilimanjaro in Africa.
Bruce Weiss, who drives a school bus for Community Unit School District 300 and gets his daily exercise walking in Spring Hill Mall, plans to scale the 19,000-foot-tall dormant volcano.
He has an irregular heartbeat that can lead to blood clots, stroke and heart failure. He's also tried and failed twice. Still, he said he believes third time's the charm.
The son of missionary parents grew up in Africa, and had a boyhood dream to scale the mountain.
