CHICAGO (WLS) -- A recent study found e-cigarette use among middle and high school students has tripled in just one year.
The FDA has yet to finalize rules on e-cigarettes.
Sen. Dick Durbin is pushing for regulation, saying he was disappointed the FDA's draft rules did not address the use of flavoring and child-proof packaging.
"This is, I guess, what they put inside these cigarettes - I don't know that much about it but it's a flavor and it's loaded with chemicals, especially nicotine," Durbin said. "God forbid a child is attracted to this and takes a little swig of it."
Experts say a toddler could die if they consume just one of those vials used for e-cigarettes.
