Vigil held for woman reported missing a year ago from Marquette Park

CHICAGO (WLS) -- Family and friends of a Chicago woman who went missing a year ago in the city's Marquette Park neighborhood gathered Sunday to raise awareness about her disappearance.

Joanna Wright was last seen on Dec. 18, 2016 in the 6400-block of South Washtenaw when her family said she was forced into a car, screaming for help.

"Not knowing anything. That's what hurts," said sister Valencia Harrison.

Last week was Wright's 34th birthday. On Sunday, a vigil was held by loved ones who are hopeful that she will be found.

"We all have that feeling that she's still here," said mom Alicia Roberts.

Joining them were family members of Marlo Gulley, a 26-year old friend of Wright who went missing in October.

"Someone knows something and I'm reaching out to whoever that may be that knows that something," said Gulley's mother Melody Palmer.

Shante Bohanon, 20, was the third person to turn up missing from the neighborhood.

Her body was found in July, stuffed into a garbage can in a garage on the Far South Side. All three people knew each other and community activists say these cases are linked.

"We know that something is happening over here that people keep disappearing over here," said community responder Dawn Valenti.
