Saturday was National Adoption Day and Chicago took part in a one-day event that made the dreams of nearly 60,000 children come true.

The Chicago Children's Museum and the Illinois Department of Children & Family Services celebrated over 100 new adoptive families.

The national effort seeks to raise awareness about more than 100,000 children in foster care who are waiting for permanent homes.

"It's been pretty good, so I hang out with my mom," said Damairn Adams.

"It's been very incredible for me because I made new memories and now I got a family that really loves me," said Omarion Adams.

Last year, 4,000 children in foster care were adopted during this one-day nationwide event.
