5 inmates escape from Fresno, Calif., jail

FRESNO, Calif. -- The search is on for five inmates who escaped from the Madera County Department of Corrections.

The inmates escaped around 9:15 p.m. Friday, according to sheriff's spokeswoman Erica Stuart.

Authorities are looking for Juan Lopez, 33, Abel Ramos, 25, Ricardo Cendejas, 19, Roel Soliz, 29, and Jorge Lopez-Diaz, 26.

Initially, officials said that one inmate -- Juan Lopez -- had escaped on Friday night. However, they announced on Saturday that four other inmates also broke out.

Juan Lopez was in custody for the following charges:

Attempted murder

Parole violation

Strong armed robbery

Probation violation

Abel Ramos was in custody for the following charges:

Attempted murder

Recklessly evading a peace officer

Burglary

Felon in possession of a firearm

Probation violation

Receiving stolen property

Carrying a concealed weapon

Carrying a loaded firearm

Ricardo Cendejas was in custody for the following charges:

Attempted murder

Armed robbery

Strong arm robbery

Carjacking

Promoting/assisting further felonious acts with a street gang

Roel Soliz was in custody for the following charges:

Parole violation

Burglary

Probation violation

Possession of a controlled substance

Jorge Lopez-Diaz was in custody for the following charges:

Strong arm robbery

Interfering with an officer
