OSWEGO, Ill. (WLS) -- A Kendall County Sheriff's deputy is being praised for saving a driver after his car crashed into a retention pond in suburban Oswego on early New Year's Day, officials said.
Shortly before 2 a.m. on Friday, a vehicle swerved off the road into the pond.
Deputy Tyler Johnson arrived on the scene and jumped into the freezing water, according to the Kendall County Sheriff's Department.
Johnson broke out the rear window of the car and pulled the driver to shore. Johnson was treated for hypothermia.
The driver was arrested for drunken driving.
