1 in custody after River West sex assault, Chicago police say

CHICAGO (WLS) -- A man is in custody after a woman said she was sexually assaulted in River West Monday morning, Chicago police said.

The incident occurred at about 2:30 a.m. in the 800-block of West Superior Street.

Police said a 29-year-old woman told police she was sexually assaulted and the victim was transported to St. Mary of Nazareth Hospital for an evaluation.

Police said the suspect attempted to get away in a gray sedan but struck a pole and was taken into custody.

Charges are pending against the suspect, police said.
