
ELGIN, Ill. (WLS) -- A small explosion inside of a home in the northwest suburbs left two people hurt Wednesday, officials said.
The explosion happened around 4:30 p.m. in the basement of the house in the 500 block of West Chicago Street in Elgin.
First responders said the two people who were hurt suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
Elgin police officials later said the explosion happened around a construction crew hit a gas line.
"Ensuring the safety of the public and everyone we serve is our No. 1 value. Nicor Gas has been notified of an incident in the 500 block of West Chicago Street in Elgin where our first responders are on scene and will remain there to provide support to first responders," Nicor said in a statement.
