
MCHENRY, Ill. (WLS) -- A 19-year-old woman and a 14-year-old boy were killed in a crash in McHenry Monday morning, police said.
The crash occurred at about 12:30 a.m. at the intersection of Richmond Road and McCullom Lake Road.
Police said a 2006 Audi A4 driven by an 18-year-old man was traveling south on Richmond Road when it crashed into a 2015 Nissan Sentra at the intersection of McCullom Lake Road. A Toyota Echo that was parked and unoccupied was also struck.
The 19-year-old woman and 14-year-old boy in the Nissan Sentra were pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
The 18-year-old driver of the Audi was taken to Northwestern McHenry Hospital with serious injuries. There was no one else in his vehicle.
McHenry police later said the man, identified as Jason K. Land of Fox River Grove, has been charged with aggravated driving under the influence of alcohol - accident causing death, driving under the influence with a blood alcohol content of 0.08 or more and failing to reduce speed to avoid a crash.
Land was released from the hospital Monday afternoon and taken into custody.
He was taken to McHenry County Jail and released into the custody of the McHenry County Sheriff's Office.
Police said the Nissan was driving north on Richmond Road and trying to turn left onto McCullom Lake Road, when the Audi, which was driving quickly south on Richmond, ignored the red light and hit the Nissan.
The intersection was partially closed for about seven hours while the crash team conducted its investigation.
