Woman dies in fire at South Shore apartment, officials say

CHICAGO (WLS) -- A woman died after an apartment building fire in South Shore overnight into Sunday, according to officials.

The fire happened at an apartment building in the 1900-block of E 73rd Place, the Chicago Fire Department said.

Chicago fire officials said three people were taken to an area hospital with injuries.

The Cook County Medical Examiner's Office confirmed a woman died from her injuries.

Jacqueline Short, 73, was identified as the woman who died, the medical examiner said.

The Chicago Fire Department sad the fire was out by 5:15 a.m. and the cause is under investigation.
