3 injured, including 2 Chicago police officers in SW Side crash

CHICAGO (WLS) -- Three people, including two Chicago police officers, were injured in a crash in the Gage Park neighborhood Wednesday morning, police said.

The crash occurred at about 4:31 a.m. in the 5100-block of South California Avenue.

Police said a 51-year-old man driving north on California Avenue when he ran a red light and struck a marked squad car going west on 51st Street.

Two officers in the squad car were transported to a hospital where they were in good condition, police said.

Police said the man fled the scene but was taken into custody and transported to Holy Cross Hospital in stable condition, police said.

The driver was issued four citations. Area One detectives are investigating.
