$50M verdict reached in case of sexual assault of 8-year-old boy in Peoria camp bathroom

PEORIA, Ill. (WLS) -- A $50 million verdict was reached in Cook County Circuit Court following the sexual assault of an 8-year-old boy.

This happened in Peoria in 2022, in the bathroom of a camp operated by Chicago-based First Ascent Climbing and Fitness.

An attorney at Clifford Law Offices says the 13-year-old boy accused in the case pleaded guilty to criminal charges.

On Monday, a jury found the camp was negligent in its lack of supervision, protocols, and communication in handling youngsters at the camp.

The 13-year-old in question was supposed to be under constant supervision.

ABC7 reached out to First Ascent Climbing and Fitness but did not immediately hear back.
