Addison ice cream shop owner charged with child pornography, unauthorized recording in public place

ADDISON, Ill. (WLS) -- The owner of a suburban ice cream shop was in court Saturday on charges of child pornography and unauthorized video recording in a public place, according to police and court records.

There was a sign place on the entrance of Flavor Frenzy in Addison saying the shop is now closed. It was a shock to the local community as people learned the ice cream shop owner is now facing several felony charges.

Addison police said Steven Weisberg of Buffalo Grove was arrested Friday. Weisberg owns Flavor Frenzy on Lake Street in Addison, which appears to be the center of the investigation.

Court records obtained by ABC7 showed the suspect is facing multiple felony charges, including video child pornography and unauthorized video recording of a victim under 18 with a device placed in a public place.

Many people working at the neighboring businesses near the ice cream shop witnessed police in the area Friday as Weisberg was taken into custody.

One man named Simon, who has worked at the strip mall for decades, says he's known Weisberg ever since he bought the ice cream shop about three or four years ago.

"It's really bad because to me he looked like a nice guy, but what can you do, you don't know people until you find out," Simon said. "I know all the girls that work for him are 99% teenagers I believe."

Addison police could not confirm details yet about how long the illegal video recording has allegedly been going on, but they confirmed the charges Weisberg is facing as they continue to investigate how many more victims there may be.

A judge ruled Saturday morning that Weisberg will remain in jail for now, and court records showed he's due back in court on Sunday.
