Authorities responded to a call regarding infants not breathing.

At the time, authorities said there were no visible signs of trauma to either child, but an autopsy later determined they died from multiple injuries caused by a blunt object.

Afterward, police said both girls were malnourished and that some of their injuries were days or even weeks old.

Vega was sentenced to 40 years in January for the girls' deaths.
