Baytown father arrested for capital murder of 7-week-old baby: docs

BAYTOWN, Texas -- A father is accused of allegedly killing his own baby inside their Texas apartment.

The baby boy died in July 2025, seven days after his family called 911 to their Baytown apartment complex, located about 30 miles east of Houston.

On the night of the incident, court documents said a witness reported hearing the father yelling to shut up while the baby was crying.

Shortly after that, the witness said the crying stopped.

Court documents said medics were called to a Baytown apartment complex for a newborn not breathing.

When they got there, medics reported seeing a 7-week-old baby lying on the mattress with no clothes on and no pulse.

At the time, court documents said the baby was alone with the father, Christopher Leon Jenkins, while the child's mother was in another unit nearby with her mother.

The child's mother allegedly told investigators that about 20 minutes after handing him the baby, Jenkins rushed over, said something was wrong, and that's when 911 was called.

The baby was taken to the hospital, where he died seven days later, according to court documents.

Nearly nine months later, the 26-year-old man is charged with capital murder.

Throughout the course of this investigation, investigators claimed Jenkins told conflicting stories. Initially, he allegedly said he stepped out to smoke a cigarette while the baby was sleeping and returned to find the infant not breathing.

Then, officials said he later claimed he dropped the baby on accident while feeding him, but then claimed he dropped the baby on his head when taking him out of the bath.

Authorities said during a demonstration with a doll, Jenkins threw it onto the bed and said the baby bounced off and landed on the floor.

In another interview, investigators said he admitted he started to feel a little angry when the baby was crying and that after the baby bounced off the bed and was on the ground, he picked the child up and began shaking him.

An autopsy later determined the baby died from blunt force trauma to the head.

He was arrested on Saturday and booked into the Harris County Jail, according to online records.

Jenkins' bond was denied, and he's due back in court on Monday.
