Chicago Bears running back Kyle Monangai is expected to miss multiple weeks after sustaining a knee injury during practice on Sunday, a source told ESPN's Jeremy Fowler.
An MRI revealed that Monangai hyperextended his right knee, which forced him to leave practice early on Sunday. Monangai also dealt with a soft-tissue injury at the beginning of training camp that sidelined him for several days.
The running back was among the handful of starters that did not play in the Bears' 34-10 preseason win over the Browns but participated in a non-padded practice on Sunday. He got injured in practice when he was tackled from behind during an 11-on-11 period.
The former seventh-round pick shares a backfield with D'Andre Swift. During Monangai's first absence at camp, running back Salvon Ahmed took most of the running back reps with the second-team offense. Roschon Johnson is also a candidate to earn a bigger workload behind Swift for as long as Monangai is out.
Monangai rushed 169 times for 783 yards and five touchdowns as a rookie and caught 18 passes for 164 yards.
The Bears made several additions to the 90-man roster on Monday. Marcus Davenport reunites with Chicago defensive coordinator Dennis Allen after the defensive end played his first five seasons for Allen in New Orleans. Davenport visited the Bears on Sunday.
This is Davenport's third stop in the NFC North. He spent the last two seasons with the Lions and played for the Vikings in 2023. Davenport totaled one sack and three quarterback hits in eight games with seven starts in 2025. His season was cut short after he sustained a chest injury.
The Bears also signed defensive back De'Antre Prince.
