Vehicle crashes into 2 homes after driver shot, killed in Harvey, officials say

HARVEY, Ill. (WLS) -- A driver crashed his vehicle into two homes in the south suburbs after he was shot and killed.

The shooting happened around 3:09 a.m. Friday near 144th and Center Avenue in Harvey, officials said.

A 42-year-old man was shot inside his vehicle, causing him to loss control and crash into two homes, a Harvey spokesperson said.

The driver was shot in the chest. He was later pronounced dead. His identity has not yet been released.

The shooting victim had recently celebrated his birthday, a Harvey spokesperson said.

One family in a home that was hit by the shooting victim's vehicle said no one inside was hurt after the crash.

A homicide investigation is ongoing.
