CHICAGO (WLS) -- The Chicago Bears are testing a new potential stadium site in Hammond.
The team is testing soil near Wolf Lake Terminals, just west of Interstate 90.
In a statement, the Bears said this is part of the normal site evaluation process as they assess land in the Wolf Lake region.
"This activity is part of the normal site evaluation process as we continue to advance our stadium development project in Hammond. We have an excellent option already in place and continue to assess additional parcels of land in the Wolf Lake region to ensure we place the stadium and mixed-use district in the very best location to serve all of Chicagoland," the statement reads.
Hammond Mayor Tom McDermott recently said on his weekly "Left of Center" podcast that he has been in frequent contact with the team.
This comes after Gov. JB Pritzker said Tuesday that discussions with the Bears are "still alive," noting that the team has reached out to his office for guidance while evaluating options in Illinois.
