Woman killed in hit-and-run crash in Grand Crossing, Chicago police say

CHICAGO (WLS) -- The alleged driver a luxury sports car has been charged in a deadly crash in Grand Crossing, Chicago police said.

The crash happened at about 2:42 a.m. in the 6900-Block of South Stony Island Avenue Sunday, police said.

A 64-year-old woman was in a black SUV heading northbound when a McLaren sports car was heading eastbound and allegedly crashed into the SUV, police said.

The woman died at the scene. She was identified as Detrice D. Wortham by the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office.

Garland Spikes, 45, is accused of driving the McLaren and running a red light, causing the crash, according to police.

Spikes is facing charges for reckless homicide, driving with a suspended license and reckless driving.

He is due in court on Tuesday.

Chicago police said the driver of the black SUV fled the scene.

Video from the scene shows a black Nissan SUV crashed into a box truck.

No other information was available.
