Child, 6, shot in West Lawn drive-by shooting , Chicago police say

CHICAGO (WLS) -- A young boy was shot while riding in a drive-by shooting on Friday night, Chicago police said.

The shooting happened in the 3700-block of W. 59th Place at about 9:35 p.m. in the West Lawn neighborhood, police said.

A 6-year-old boy was riding in the passenger seat of a vehicle when someone started shooting in their direction.

Chicago police said the shooter was in a white SUV traveling westbound.

The boy was shot in the right buttocks. Someone drove to him to an area hospital for treatment.

Police responded to the hospital.

No other information was available.

Nobody is in custody.
