
CHICAGO (WLS) -- Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson touted new crime numbers for July.
On Tuesday, the mayor said there continues to be a downward trend in shooting deaths, shooting victims, and violent crime.
"We acknowledge the progress that we have made this far, but it's not a time to pat ourselves on our backs," Johnson said. But, this is certainly an encouraging indication that our efforts ... are paying dividends."
The mayor also noting that Chicago is now exceeding the national trend of declining crime.
