CHICAGO (WLS) -- The Chicago Drives Electric event in Oakbrook Terrace is offering drivers a chance to test drive a an electric vehicle this weekend.
"This event offers 16 different manufacturers, 44 different models from which people can test drive throughout the weekend, really get familiar which the vehicles out there and actually test drive them to see if the vehicle might be right for them," Jennifer Morand, the president Chicago Auto Show and Chicago Automobile Trade Association said.
ComEd said they awarded over $100 million in rebates for EV charging stations and fleet vehicles since launching the program last year.
The good news is that the funding keeps rolling on, giving drivers more opportunities to plug in and drive.
"We have nearly 150k electric vehicles in Illinois of which, 90% are registered In ComEd territory," Christina Botero, senior manager for beneficial electrification at ComEd said. "What's exciting about that is the growth in electric vehicle registration in Illinois between 2024 to 2025 has been three to four times faster than in the US as a whole so we are really seeing the adoption accelerate."
The Chicago Drives Electric event ends on Sunday, October 5.
