Chicago exhibit highlights Iran war impact through photographers' perspectives at 6-month mark

CHICAGO (WLS) -- A new art installation in Chicago's Pilsen neighborhood is opening as the war with Iran reaches its six-month mark, offering visitors a look at the conflict through the eyes of Iranian photographers and seeking to remember children killed in the early days of the war.

The exhibit, titled "Through Iranian Eyes," focuses on children who were killed when Iran says a U.S. bomb struck the Minab School in southern Iran during the first days of the conflict. According to the exhibit, the circumstances surrounding the incident remain under investigation by the U.S. armed forces as efforts continue to find a resolution to the war.

Artist and U.S. citizen Teerdad Amir Normandi, founder and coordinator of the Chicago Nowruz Parade, is behind the display. The exhibit includes images and information about the children killed when a missile hit the Minab School, which may have been adjacent to an Iranian military facility.

The installation seeks to expand public discussion beyond issues such as rising gas prices, inflation and geopolitical instability by focusing on the human toll of the conflict and raising questions about U.S. objectives in Iran. The exhibit notes that despite the destruction of much of Iran's military and former leadership, U.S. pressure for a nuclear deal has been met with continued defiance.

"They are a proud nation with a proud history and even if they have differences with their own government they do not want to bring a peace and come with their arms raised and say we we give up... no they are not going to give up they need their dignity and honor," Normandi, a human rights activist, said.

The exhibit will remain on display for an unspecified period as activists work to remind people of the injuries, death and destruction experienced by people on all sides of the war.
