Crystal Lake woman pleads guilty to sexual conduct with dog, officials say

MCHENRY COUNTY, Ill. (WLS) -- A north suburban woman has pleaded guilty to having sexual conduct with a dog, officials said Thursday.

Katelyn E. Heiden, 28, of Crystal Lake was charged with felony sexual conduct with an animal, the McHenry County State's Attorney's Office said.

Huntley police began an investigation July 11, 2025 after receiving a report that Heiden and a man had engaged in sexual acts with animals.

During the investigation, police obtained warrants and searched the suspect's cell phones, where they found videos of sexual acts involving animals. Police determined Heiden engaged in sexual contact with a dog.

"This case involved deeply disturbing conduct that was uncovered through a thorough investigation and the forensic examination of electronic evidence," McHenry County State's Attorney Randi Freese said in a statement. "Animals are vulnerable and depend upon people for their care and protection. Our office will continue to work with law enforcement to hold accountable those who criminally exploit or abuse them."

Heiden will have a sentencing hearing November 20.
