Man killed in NW Side fire ID'd

CHICAGO (WLS) -- A man and a dog died in a house fire on Thursday morning, Chicago fire and police said.

The fire happened at about 5:50 a.m. in the 5800-Block of North Louise Avenue in the Edgebrook neighborhood, police said.

When first responders arrived, they found a man with burns to the body inside the home.

Police said he died at the scene.

The Cook County Medical Examiner's Office identified him as Robert Atkinson, 84. He lived in the same block, where the fire occurred.

The house fire began in the garage as a car fire, according to Chicago Fire Department officials.

CFD said a dog was also found dead.

No other information was available.
