
CHICAGO (WLS) -- A suspect is in custody in connection with the Monday night shooting deaths of two people in East Garfield Park, Chicago police said.
The shooting occurred at about 9:42 p.m. in the 2800-block of West Washington Boulevard.
Police said two men, 44 and 31, got into an argument, which became physical. The 44-year-old man took out a sharp object and attacked the 31-year-old man.
The 31-year-old man, who has a valid FOID card, took out his gun and shot the 44-year-old man, police said.
The 44-year-old man was transported to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The Cook County Medical Examiner's Office identified him as Marchillo Freeman.
During the argument, a 38-year-old woman who tried to intervene was also shot, police said. She died later at Mount Sinai Hospital. Her identity was not immediately released.
The FOID card holder is in custody, and charges are pending, police said. Area Three detectives are investigating.
Authorities did not immediately provide further information.
