CHICAGO (WLS) -- A drive-by shooting and crash on the Near North Side near the Magnificent Mile left a woman walking in the area wounded, Chicago police said.
The incident occurred at about 9:27 p.m. in the first block of East Chicago Avenue.
Police said 22-year-old man in a red sedan was approached by a white sedan and someone inside opened fire.
The vehicle was shot up and sustained extensive damage, but the driver was not injured, police said.
A 25-year-old woman who was walking outside a the time was shot in the thigh and transported to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where she was listed in fair condition.
Police said the driver of the red sedan lost control of his vehicle and hit a parked vehicle, which pushed into a second parked vehicle and injured a 52-year-old man. The injured man was transported to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where he was listed in fair condition.
The shooting has left the neighborhood on edge.
"We heard a gunshots and we were like oh wow, and we came out and we saw and saw the ambulance," neighborhood resident Joshua Leveh said.
Erin McDougald says people dining at a nearby restaurant hit the floor.
"I heard 'boom, boom, boom' ,then thinking suddenly gunfire. My roommate said it's probably a car backfiring," McDougald said.
The barrage of bullets not only the man's car, it shattered the glass window of a donut shop.
"I had not too much earlier been walking down the same street because it was so such a nice night," neighborhood resident Ande Borkowski said. "It's a little unsettling."
Area Three detectives are investigating.
